Do you know the chatGPT plugins? Our recommendations and how to install them

6 de June de 2023

In artificial intelligence’s ongoing quest to make our lives easier, ChatGPT has emerged as a powerful tool for communication. Its ability to understand and answer questions, generate ideas and help with creative tasks makes it an indispensable resource for many. But did you know that you can further enhance its functionality with the help of plugins? Read on to find out how these plugins extend the chat’s abilities.

ChatGPT updates

Since its launch, ChatGPT’s user base has been growing steadily. This chatbot, powered by the GPT model, has gained widespread global acceptance thanks to its ability to generate consistent and natural responses.

It is essential that OpenAI continues to innovate in order to maintain its leading position in the language model market. Indeed, one of the main challenges it faces is updating the model, as the platform uses a version from the end of 2021. As a result, the information it provides may be outdated.

The company has demonstrated its ability to meet user demands with the introduction of plugins, the IOS application and the development of two of its own add-ons: a web browser, which allows information to be retrieved from the Internet, and a code interpreter, which allows Python code to be executed.

Of particular note is the recent integration of Bing as an online source in the web browser add-on. By combining the best of both tools, OpenAI has managed to optimise the efficiency of ChatGPT and keep it up to date.

What are plugins in ChatGPT?

In March 2023, OpenAI released an update in which they made available to some ChatGPT plus users plugins that improve the processing power of the model. Since then, the model has grown steadily thanks to the optimisation of responses.

Plugins are additional tools that can be installed to extend the capabilities of ChatGPT, providing up-to-date information from specific sources and using third-party services. These can range from simple functions such as task reminders or language translation, to more complex functions such as data analysis or algorithm programming.

Plugins are created by both OpenAI and external developers. In fact, the platform warns that the plugins are not controlled by OpenAI, but are powered by third-party applications.

Currently, ChatGPT offers more than 220 plugins for the paid version, with more and more available on the web. These tools must be installed before they can be used. In addition, the platform independently determines when to use each of them.

How are the plugins installed?

The installation of these tools is very easy. Here is a step-by-step description of how to activate the plugins and install them in the chat:

  1. Go to settings and select “beta features”. Once there, you must activate the “plugins” option.

2. Once in the chat, you need to activate the GPT-4 model. After clicking on the model, there is a dropdown where you can activate the “plugins” option.

3. Once the plugins are activated, under the model options, there will be a button to activate/deactivate the plugins and another button “plugin store”, where you can install or uninstall the plugins you want.
